Our analysis

AI-assisted

Append Link on Copy is a WordPress plugin that allows you to automatically add text or HTML to content copied from your site. When a visitor copies text, a link to the original page is appended, ensuring that the source is maintained when pasted elsewhere.

You can customise the link text, choose how many tags to insert, and decide whether to include the page title or site title. The plugin also provides previews of both HTML and text versions of the copied content.

Best for: This plugin suits website owners who want to maintain attribution for their content when it is copied by visitors.

What it does well

  • Automatically adds a link to copied content
  • Customisable link text and options
  • Preview feature for copied content

Where it falls short

  • Limited functionality as described
  • Last updated in January 2015
  • Tested only up to WordPress version 4.8.30

Verdict

Append Link on Copy offers a straightforward solution for adding links to copied content, but its outdated status may limit compatibility with newer WordPress versions.

From the developer

JonathanMH's own description of Append Link on Copy, lightly tidied.

With this Plugin you can automatically add text or html to content that is copied from your page.

If a visitor copies any kind of text from the website, a link to the page is appended, so if it is pasted elsewhere, a link to the page is maintained.

right now you can:

  • specify the Read more link text, default: Read more at:
  • how many
tags should be inserted below the copied text and the link or copyright notice
  • specify if you want the current page title included
  • make every copy link to the main page
  • decide if you want the site title to be appended
  • see previews of HTML and text versions of the copied text and link

I plan to increase the functionality with:

  • some internationalisation
  • if somebody wants to contribute legacy IE support I’ll include that
