BuddyPress Check-ins adds a place to your community. Members click the map marker in the activity composer, type a location, pick it from Google’s autocomplete suggestions, and the activity posts with a map of that spot. Every place a member saves also lands on a “Check-ins” tab on their profile, with a map of everywhere they have been.

Check-ins works with both BuddyPress and BuddyBoss Platform, in member activity and inside groups.

This plugin needs a Google Maps API key with billing enabled on the Google Cloud project. Google requires this for the Places and Geocoding APIs the plugin calls. Without a key, the check-in marker does not appear and nothing is stored. Google’s free monthly usage tier covers small and mid-sized communities, but the billing account has to exist before any request succeeds. Paste the key at WB Plugins > Check-ins > General and use the Verify button to confirm it works before you tell members about the feature.

Check in from the activity composer
* A map marker in the activity composer opens the check-in panel.
* Google Places autocomplete suggests locations as the member types.
* The posted activity shows the chosen place with a map below it.
* Optionally save the place to the member’s Check-ins tab at the same time.

A Check-ins tab on every member profile
* A paginated list of every place the member has saved, with dates.
* View or trash any single row, or select all and bulk delete.
* An aggregate map showing all of the member’s saved places at once.
* A clear empty state before the first check-in.
* Rename the tab or turn it off entirely from the settings.

Check-ins in groups
* Members can attach a place to activity posted in a group.
* Group check-ins read as “checked-in in the group X” in the stream.

A Location field on member profiles
* The plugin creates a “Location” xProfile field for you.
* Google autocomplete binds to it, so members pick a real place rather than typing free text.
* The place, latitude and longitude are saved together, and the field renders as a Google Maps link on the profile.
* Turn the field on or off with the “Profile location field” setting.

Find check-ins in the stream
* The activity dropdown gets a filter that shows check-ins only.

Admin settings and overview
* An Overview dashboard: how many members have checked in, whether the API key is set and verified, and a summary of the current configuration.
* General settings: Check-ins tab on or off, tab label, profile location field on or off, and the Google Maps API key.
* One-click Verify tests your key against the Google endpoints the plugin uses, including a specific check for billing being disabled on the project.
* An admin bar link straight to your Check-ins tab.
