Our analysis

AI-assisted

Editor Menu and Widget Access is a WordPress plugin that enables users with the Editor or Shop Manager roles to access the Menus and Widgets sections in the admin area. This allows these users to manage their website's content more independently, which can be beneficial for clients who need to make regular updates.

The plugin also provides access to the Customize submenu and other theme options, although these can be hidden if desired. Additionally, it allows for the hiding of custom options pages and elements in the Admin Bar, giving site administrators control over what these user roles can see and access.

Best for: This plugin is suitable for WordPress sites where Editors or Shop Managers need to manage menus and widgets.

What it does well

  • Allows Editors and Shop Managers to access Menus and Widgets
  • Enables clients to manage website content independently
  • Custom options pages can be hidden from specified user roles
  • Admin Bar elements can be selectively hidden

Where it falls short

  • Limited information on additional features or user support
  • No details on compatibility with specific themes or plugins

Verdict

Editor Menu and Widget Access provides essential functionality for user role management in WordPress, though further details on support and compatibility would be helpful.

From the developer

GuyPrimavera's own description of Editor Menu and Widget Access, lightly tidied.

This open source and lightweight plugin allows users with the role Editor or Shop Manager to access the Menus and Widgets areas of the Appearance menu in WordPress’ admin area.

This is a common task that would be useful for clients to manage themselves to give them more control over their website’s content.

This plugin also gives access to the Customize submenu and other theme options, but these can be hidden through the options page at Appearance > Editor Access if you wish.

You can also select other menus to hide from Editors and Shop Managers (e.g. custom theme or plugin options pages), as well as hiding any elements on the Admin Bar.

Features

  • Allow access to Customize, Menus and Widgets for Editors and Shop Managers.
  • Theme Options remain hidden from these user roles.
  • Hide custom options pages from these users (if your theme/plugin has a custom settings page you wish to hide).
  • Hide any other menus or submenus. Simply select which menus you wish to hide.
  • Hide admin bar menus and elements. Choose which elements you wish to hide.
