Our analysis

AI-assisted

Filter Admin Published Default is a WordPress plugin that modifies the admin interface to show only published post types by default. This includes posts, pages, and custom post types that have a public URL. The plugin aims to streamline the process of finding live content in the admin dashboard, particularly for users with numerous drafts and scheduled posts.

Once activated, the plugin requires no additional configuration. It automatically filters the post types to display published items, saving users from having to apply the filter manually each time they access the admin area.

Best for: This plugin is suitable for WordPress site administrators managing multiple post types and drafts.

What it does well

  • Enables default filtering of published post types in wp-admin
  • Supports posts, pages, and custom post types with a public URL
  • Reduces the need for manual filtering in the admin dashboard

Where it falls short

  • Limited information on additional features or settings

Verdict

Filter Admin Published Default provides a simple solution for improving post management in the WordPress admin area. It is particularly useful for those who frequently deal with a large number of drafts.

From the developer

Chuck Reynolds's own description of Filter Admin Published Default, lightly tidied.

Enables all public post types in wp-admin to show the Published filter by default: posts, pages, and any custom post type with a public URL. Those are the post types where the distinction actually matters, the ones with a front end, where you want to see at a glance what is live and what is not.

This came out of a real need. Some clients of mine had so many drafts and pre-scheduled posts that the published ones were pushed off the first page entirely, and finding a live post meant paginating through drafts to get to it. I got tired of the extra click to filter by published every single time.

Usage

Once activated you don’t need to do anything.
