Our analysis

AI-assisted

JSM User Locale Selector is a WordPress plugin that adds a user locale drop-down menu to both the admin back-end and front-end toolbar menus. This allows logged-in users to quickly switch their preferred language setting without needing to access their user profile page.

The plugin extends the default functionality of WordPress, which only applies user locale preferences to the admin area, by also applying these preferences to the front-end of the site. It integrates with the Polylang plugin to ensure correct language URLs are used when switching languages.

Best for: This plugin is suitable for multilingual WordPress sites that require easy language switching for users.

What it does well

  • Allows quick language switching for logged-in users
  • Extends language preference to both admin and front-end
  • No settings required after installation

Where it falls short

  • Limited information on additional features or settings

Verdict

JSM User Locale Selector provides a straightforward solution for managing user language preferences in WordPress. It is especially useful for sites with multilingual content.

From the developer

JS Morisset's own description of JSM User Locale Selector, lightly tidied.

Add a user locale drop-down menu item in the WordPress admin back-end admin and front-end toolbar menus.

Perfect for anyone that needs to switch languages quickly and easily – allows logged-in users to change their preferred locale / language setting right from the toolbar menu (instead of having to update their WordPress user profile page).

The default WordPress behavior is to apply the user locale preference to the admin back-end only – this plugin extends the user locale / language preference to the front-end webpage as well.

There are no plugin settings – simply install and activate the plugin.

Do you use the Polylang plugin?

If the Polylang plugin is active, the user locale menu will automatically use the correct Polylang language URLs for the current webpage.
