Our analysis

AI-assisted

Menu Override is a WordPress plugin designed to help you manage navigation menus on medium to large sites. It allows for a global navigation menu that appears at the top of every page, alongside section level navigation menus on specific pages. This functionality is particularly useful for sites that require more complex navigation structures than typical themes provide.

The plugin is suitable for site owners who need to enhance their navigation experience without relying solely on their theme's built-in options. It caters to those looking to improve usability and organisation in their site navigation.

Best for: Medium to large WordPress sites needing advanced navigation options.

What it does well

  • Enables global navigation menus across all pages
  • Supports section level navigation on specific pages
  • Addresses a common limitation in many themes

Where it falls short

  • Limited information on additional features
  • Last updated in April 2014

Verdict

Menu Override provides a solution for improved navigation on larger sites, though its age and limited updates may be a consideration for users.

From the developer

Phillip Shipley's own description of Menu Override, lightly tidied.

On medium to large sites there is often a need to have a “global navigation” menu that exists at the top of every page of the site and then have section level navigation menus on various pages of the site. Not many themes allow you to do this so I created this plugin to fix that.
