Our analysis
AI-assistedNav Menu Images is a WordPress plugin that allows you to upload images for navigation menu items directly from the menu edit screen. By default, the images replace the text labels of the respective menu items, and you can set images to appear on hover or for the currently displayed page.
This plugin is suitable for developers who want to customise the display of menu items using filters or by creating a child class. It requires some custom CSS for optimal appearance, as the default display may not meet all design needs.
Best for: This plugin suits developers looking to enhance navigation menus with images on their WordPress sites.
What it does well
- ✓Enables image uploads for nav menu items
- ✓Images can replace text labels
- ✓Supports hover and current page image displays
- ✓Customisable through filters and child classes
Where it falls short
- •Default appearance may require custom CSS for best results
- •Last updated in November 2017, may not be fully compatible with newer WordPress versions
Verdict
Nav Menu Images provides a straightforward way to add images to menu items, but may need additional styling for optimal results.

This plugin enables you to upload images for nav menu items on a menu edit screen. By default, those images will be displayed instead of text for respective menu items. Note that after upload, you should set an image as ‘featured’ to be able to display it.
You can also set images that will be displayed only when you hover menu item, or when menu item is of currently displayed page. Read detailed instructions about using plugin.
Developers can use many available filters to make their own way of displaying images, or even create a child class on top of base one. See source code for more ideas.
Although this plugin displays uploaded images out of the box, it will probably not give best possible look, so it’s recommended to create custom CSS styles for affected elements.
