Our analysis
AI-assistedReinstall Plugins is a WordPress plugin that enhances the built-in package installer by allowing site administrators to upgrade plugins directly through the standard upload process. It addresses the limitation where WordPress does not permit the reinstallation of plugins if the destination already exists, thus streamlining the update process.
This plugin is particularly useful for site owners and developers who frequently update plugins without wanting to rely on FTP or other file management techniques. By automatically deleting the existing plugin directory before installing the new version, it simplifies the upgrade process and reduces potential security risks associated with manual uploads.
Best for: This plugin is suitable for WordPress site owners and developers who need a straightforward way to manage plugin updates.
What it does well
- ✓Enables plugin upgrades through the standard upload process
- ✓Removes the limitation of 'destination already exists'
- ✓Saves time by eliminating the need for FTP or file management
- ✓Contributes to site security by managing plugin installations
Where it falls short
- •Limited information on additional features or support
- •Last updated in October 2019, may not be compatible with newer WordPress versions
Verdict
Reinstall Plugins offers a practical solution for upgrading plugins directly within WordPress, though its age may raise compatibility concerns for some users.
From the developer
Nashwan D's own description of Reinstall Plugins, lightly tidied.
Reinstall Plugins is a simple plugin that extends the WordPress built-in package installer. WordPress by default allows plugins installation by uploading ZIP archive files. However, the site’s admins cannot upgrade any plugin using the same standard process. This plugin enables you to do so and saves you valuable time and effort.
WordPress sites’ owners or developers used to upload their plugin updates using techniques like FTP/SSH/File Managers..etc. This consumes their time and even puts the website at a possible security risk, especially if they forgot the archive files publicly accessible or messed up something else.
Reinstall Plugins will fix and remove the common WordPress limitation “destination already exists” and delete the targeted plugin directory before installing the newer version. After that WordPress will take place and continue the regular installation or upgrade process.
A common use-case would be when a plugin developer wants to upload his plugin upgrades easily without the need for advanced deployment tools.
