Our analysis

AI-assisted

Shrinkwrap Images is a WordPress plugin designed to add a layer of protection to the images on your site. It automatically overlays a tiny, invisible image on top of your existing images, so when users attempt to save or copy an image, they receive a blank 10x10 GIF instead of the actual image.

This plugin is suitable for website owners who want to deter casual image downloading without significantly impacting site performance. It does not claim to prevent downloads entirely but serves as an additional protective measure.

Best for: Website owners looking to protect their images from casual downloading.

What it does well

  • Automatically overlays a tiny invisible image on existing images
  • Returns a blank GIF when users try to download or copy images
  • Designed to have a low impact on site performance

Where it falls short

  • Does not prevent image downloads entirely
  • Limited feature information available

Verdict

Shrinkwrap Images offers a simple way to add a layer of protection to your images, but it has limitations in preventing downloads completely.

From the developer

Ben Dunkle's own description of Shrinkwrap Images, lightly tidied.

This plugin will automatically add a tiny, invisible image on top of all of the images in your site. If a visitor right-clicks on one of your images, and selects “Save to Disk”, they will download the clear tiny image instead of the image that appears. If they select “Copy Image”, they will copy the clear tiny image instead of the image that appears.

You shouldn’t notice any slowdown on your site after installing the plugin; it has a very low profile.

In no way does the plugin claim to prevent downloads entirely; it is merely an added protective measure for your images.

Usage

  • If someone right-clicks on an image on your site, and selects Dowwnload Image or Open in New Tab etc., the plugin will return a 10×10 blank gif image.
