Our analysis

AI-assisted

TinyPNG for WordPress is a plugin designed to connect with the TinyPNG.com API to optimise PNG images by reducing their file size. Users need to provide their email address and TinyPNG API key to use the plugin, after which they can upload PNG files for optimisation. The optimised images are saved in a dedicated TinyPNG folder within the WordPress media directory.

This plugin may be suitable for users who need a simple way to reduce PNG file sizes on their WordPress site. However, it is not the official TinyPNG plugin and has not been updated frequently, which may affect its reliability and compatibility with newer WordPress versions.

Best for: This plugin suits users looking for a basic tool to optimise PNG images on their WordPress site.

What it does well

  • Connects with the TinyPNG.com API
  • Optimises PNG files to reduce size
  • Saves optimised images in a dedicated folder

Where it falls short

  • Low rating and limited active installs
  • Last updated in November 2015
  • Not the official TinyPNG plugin

Verdict

While TinyPNG for WordPress offers basic image optimisation features, its outdated status and low rating may limit its effectiveness for some users.

From the developer

Prateek Kathal's own description of TinyPNG for WordPress, lightly tidied.

This is not the official plugin for TinyPNG. Please go to the following link for the official plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/tiny-compress-images/

This is a WordPress Plugin used to connect with the TinyPNG.com API and optimize/reduce the size of your PNG file on the go. Its fast and reliable.

Instructions on How to Use:

  1. Put in the correct email address and the TinyPNG API Key associated with it. (If you haven’t made one yet, you can visit this link to make one – https://tinypng.com/developers )

  2. Upload the PNG file using the uploader. As soon as the uploading finishes, the plugin will connect to the TinyPNG API and get you the Optimized image. (The files uploaded and optimized are saved in the TInyPNG folder in the main wordpress media folder. For eg – /wp-content/TinyPNG )

Note :- Because of too much work and less of time, I am not able to work on this plugin much. I asure of you testing it in all WordPress Platforms, but any updates on its features wont be possible before July. Sorry for the inconvenience.
